YMCA versus Cloverdale Rec Centre

I'm sure most people have seen the new recreational centre built in Cloverdale on the corner of 176th Street and 62nd Avenue. More commonly known to me as the street to the backstretch barns of the racetrack. The Cloverdale Recreation Centre has recently opened and here is a link to more information about it. I'm a member of the YMCA on the corner of Highway 10 and a couple of blocks east of 152 Street, on the other side of the Panorama Shopping Centre (or whatever that plaza calls itself!). The main reason I go there is because of the swimming pool and aquafit classes and yoga classes. Its open until 11pm and sometimes we go there later in the evening for a swim. I don't use the exercise equipment and weights. It costs $95/month for couples membership. The new rec centre in Cloverdale does not have a pool. It has an exercise room and equipment and offers some fitness classes but nowhere near the amount the Y offers. It closes at 10pm. No couples membership. Monthly fee per person is $57.25 or family $114.25. So 2 people, a couple, would save 25 cents a month by signing up as a family! It takes me about 5 or 6 minutes to drive to the Y. It would take about 2 minutes to drive to the new rec centre. For me the swimming pool is the deal breaker. Even if Cloverdale had a pool the monthly fee would be the next consideration. The new rec centre in Cloverdale is not for me but it might fit other people's needs better. Not everyone wants to swim and soak in a hot tub!
