Cloverdale Spruce Up

In preparation for the rodeo events in May, the City of Surrey is doing some cleaning and sprucing up around Cloverdale. Today I saw a street cleaner around town and over the past week or so green sections in medians and beside sidewalks are being mowed and gardens weeded and maintained.

For the past 10 days the automatic water units hanging on the street lamps on 176th Street have been spouting out water. The logical solution seems to be for the city to either put up hanging plants to be watered or turn the water off. Instead people standing beneath the lamps are getting unexpected showers. I noticed a couple of buckets hanging off the lamp outside the Cloverdale Supermarket (former Shop Easy) to catch the water instead of sprinkling customers. Yesterday a couple of city employees were tending to the gardens in Hawthorne Square when the automatic waters went off. I watched them discussing it. Today when I walked down 176th Street the sidewalks were dry so I believe they may have shut the water off.

Hopefully the City of Surrey will get those gorgeous hanging baskets up before too long.

  1. Just saw the water units spouting water on my way to Kwantlen today... and still no hanging gardens. I thought they were just letting out any debris left over from the winter, but I guess not.

  2. The hanging flowers still aren't there but so far I haven't seen the water turn on or any sign that the sidewalks are wet! Today there were city crews weeding the gardens along 176th Street and the lawn was mowed around city sidewalks yesterday.
