Remembrance Day services will be held at the Museum Square in Cloverdale beginning 10:15am on November 11, 2013.
Address is 17710 56A Avenue.
The cenotaph is located just west of the museum in the square behind the Surrey Archives, formerly the police station and then the library. The current library is kitty corner to the square. There is parking at the museum but get there early. Other parking is along the streets on 56A Avenue, 176A Street, 177B Street, and the streets around there.
Ceremony usually lasts about an hour.

Cloverdale Remembrance Day Services 2012
At 10:15am on Sunday November 11, 2012, there will be a Remembrance Day service at the Cloverdale cenotaph. This is inbetween the Surrey Museum and Archives, 17710 - 56A Avenue.
Its best to arrive at least half an hour before the service to find a parking spot. All the streets in Cloverdale have free parking: 56A Avenue, 176A Street, 177B Street, etc. The museum has a parking lot but that will fill up quickly. There is a parking lot on 176A Street just north of 57th Avenue.

Remembrance Day in Cloverdale
We walked to the cenotaph beside the Surrey Museum for Cloverdale's Remembrance Day ceremony. The service started at 10:15 and ended around 11:30. We had 3 different fly pasts, the first group flying over while we were having our 2 minutes of silence at 11am.
Thankfully it didn't rain, a rarety for Remembrance Day. It was cloudy but not overly cold. The rain held off until mid-afternoon, well past the end of the ceremony.
Years ago the Remembrance Day ceremony was held in the Cloverdale Fairgrounds. It started inside the Shannon Hall building which was very nice in bad weather. When it came time to lay the wreaths at the cenotaph, which at that time was located in the southwest corner of the fairgrounds, alongside 176th Street, everyone trooped outdoors. Back in high school I was in the band and every year we played O Canada and God Save the Queen during the Remembrance Day ceremony. One year I remember we'd all gone outside to lay the wreaths. The crowd was closer to the cenotaph, the band was further away from the group. We couldn't hear a thing from the speakers so we were just standing there hanging out waiting to play the last song. My mother was in the crowd so she was able to tell me this later. Whoever had the microphone announced that now the band would now play God Save the Queen. Nothing happened. None of us had heard the announcement. One of the ministers on stage, his son was in the band. My mother watched the minister frantically trying to catch his son's attention. I guess he got it and word was out to the conductor to get the song going.
Ah yes, high school memories of carrying a soggy clarinet during the Remembrance Day ceremonies.

What's happening in Cloverdale during November 2010
Here are a few events you might want to take note of for the month of November:
November 6, Saturday - crafts and bake sale at the Hazelmere United Church on 184th Street, corner of 16th Avenue. 10am to 2pm.
November 11, Thursday - At 10:30am join the crowd at the Cloverdale cenotaph next to the museum for Remembrance Day ceremonies. 17710 56A Ave. 56A will be closed but there is lots of parking on other neighborhood streets around Cloverdale. Also public parking lots at the old Cloverdale Mall near the Legion, the public parking lots on 176A Street behind the Clova, next to the Bank of Montreal, and a little further down on the other side of 58th Avenue across from the bowling alley. Be prepared to walk a couple of blocks or so. It always rains on Remembrance Day so dress for the weather.
November 13, Saturday - 8am to 11:30am - Pancake breakfast at the Cloverdale Legion 17567 57 Ave. $4.50 for pancakes, eggs, sausages, coffee, tea, juice.
November 19 to 20: Christmas in Cloverdale Marketplace in the fairgrounds in the Alice McKay building. Friday night 5pm to 9pm and Saturday hours are 10am to 4pm. Admission is $2, partial proceeds to the food bank. See their web page for more info

Remembrance Day on Wednesday November 11 2009
If you're planning to attend the Rememberance Day services in Cloverdale on November 11, it starts at 10:15am in the cenotaph next to the museum, near the corner of 176A Street and Highway 10. Arrive early to find a parking spot. 56A Avenue is usually closed off, but parking can be found on the nearby streets, 176A, 177B, etc. Some people park in the lot at the back of the Clova Inn (176A and 57 Avenue) and walk over. You want to play on arriving 20 to 30 minutes early to find a parking spot and walk over to the museum. The wreath laying starts around 11am. There are usually several airplane flypasts during the service as they make the rounds at various cenotaphs across the Lower Mainland holding services. It always rains on Remembrance Day and there is an 80% chance of showers tomorrow.
If you're closer to White Rock, the Remembrance Day Service is held in the United Church at 10am. Its on Centre Street, on the corner of Buena Vista. If you know where the City Hall and Library is, its about half a block away. Wreath laying ceremonies at 11am. Its behind City Hall, kind of off Pacific Avenue and inbetween Buena Vista. Just follow the crowd from the service.
I was going to mention Port Kells because they usually have a Remembrance Day Service too for anyone closer to that area, but I can't find any mention of it this year. In the past its been held at the Port Kells Elementary School on 88th Avenue and about 190th Street. But I just don't know this year. My sources have let me down!

Remembrance Day Service November 11 2008
We headed down to the cenotaph in Cloverdale with the rain only a light drizzle. It had let up from a torrential downpour a couple of hours earlier. So it kept with the theme around here that it always rains on Remembrance Day.
It was a nice service with a parade by veterans, RCMP in color serge, and various cadet groups. The typical introductions, singing O Canada, hymns, laying of the wreaths, and bugle call preceeding two minutes of silence at eleven o'clock. Then the final wreaths were laid, singing God Save The Queen, and the parade route back to the Cloverdale legion.
There were three different groups of airplanes that did fly pasts during the ceremony.
In memory of all those who lost their lives serving our country and those who continue to fight for freedom in far off countries. We wear the poppies for you today.
