Rare delivery of a Surrey Leader

Hmm, one of those elusive Surrey Leaders showed up in my mailbox today. I think the last time I received one was back in January. I wonder if they've hired a new delivery person in Cloverdale. Too good to last....

Hot Air Balloon over Cloverdale tonight

I saw the first Remax hot air balloon hovering over Cloverdale tonight while driving home. Fortunately my Border Collie, Lacy, who was riding in the back seat did not spot it. She barks like crazy whenever a balloon is in the air, sometimes while I'm driving. Nothing like getting a bunch of woofs in the ear.

I've never been interested in going for a balloon ride though my husband has brought it up a couple of times over the years. After the tragic hot air balloon accident south of Cloverdale in Hazelmere three years ago you'll never get me in one of those balloons now. My husband actually was visiting a friend about half a mile away at the time the balloon caught on fire and saw some of the event unfolding in front of him. Needless to say he's never again brought up the subject of taking a flight in one of those balloons.

Different hours at Greenaway Pool

A couple of days ago we were driving past Greenaway Park around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. We noticed a lot of people in the swimming pool and a bunch of people lined up around the fence. We kind of wondered what was going on because it didn't look like anything structured like swimming lessons were going on. We wondered if the pool was at capacity and the people lining up had to wait until some swimmers left. Also the pool was open earlier than I noted in a blog last month. I double checked the City of Surrey's website, link is on that other blog, and indeed the hours have changed so they are open early afternoon.

This morning I was talking to my neighbor who sometimes brings his daughters to swim there and I told him the hours seem to be hit and miss and he agreed that is true. Whether its because someone hasn't shown up for work to open the pool or during hotter weather they open it if there's available staff he wasn't sure. But he knew about the line up. You get half an hour to swim and then you go outside and line up to come back into the pool if you still want to go swimming. He doesn't like going there because Greenaway Pool is so cold and doesn't like having the half hour line ups to swim.

I told him that pool was ice cold when I was a kid and we didn't line up for it back then. Quite the opposite. I begged my mother not to let me swim in that pool because I swore a dump truck had just poured in a load of ice cubes.

Due to the tennis court construction at Greenaway Park, pool patrons are being told to park in the east end of the Fraser Downs parking lot.

Playing at the Clova from July 9 - July 15 2010

This coming week at the Clova from July 9 to the 15th is:

7pm - Despicable Me

This movie premieres everywhere this Friday and keeping in tradition of first runs at the Clova this is the only show playing this week. Seeing as how their agreement for first runs is 2 weeks and not playing any other movies during this time I can be pretty sure this movie will be playing through to July 22. Movie lets out at 8:35pm so this will be an early night at the movies.

Note the new prices at the Clova. Admission is $8. If there are 2 people in your group the price is $15. Add an extra $4 to the admission for each extra person in your party. New prices for refills on popcorn and drinks. Bring your own reusable container from home and fill up for $2.50.

Homemade Orange Julius recipe

With the current heat wave everyone is looking for ways to cool off. I have my own version of an Orange Julius that is a refreshing treat.

Put into a blender in no particular order:

1 cup milk
1 cup water
half a can of orange juice concentrate
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup icing sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
about 9 or 10 ice cubes

Turn the blender on high speed for half a minute or so. Makes about 3 glasses. Very nice. Saves spending $5 at the mall.

Prince increase at the Clova

I was walking my dogs through Cloverdale this morning and spotted a new sign in the window at the Clova Theatre. Bottom line is the prices have increased, undoubtedly thanks to the HST that came in a couple of days ago.

Admission is now $8.

However, if there are 2 people in your party, price is $15.

If there are 3 people in your group, the total is $19.

For each additional person add $4.
