Tonight - Tuesday Dec 14 - at 7:30 I was driving east on 58th Avenue heading up to 182 Street to meet someone. The street was quiet. I was the only vehicle in either direction.
179th Street is a street that runs only between 58th and 60th Avenues. Closer to 60th Avenue on the east side of the street is Zion Lutheran Church. There is a school there too. Behind the church and school on 180th Street is the retirement residence run by the church.
As I was driving along 58th I observed a small school bus - the kind that seats about 30 people or so - travelling on 179th. It runs the stop sign and turns left right in front of me. I slam on my brakes and hit the horn and held it down for several seconds. The bus had passengers though I couldn't tell if they were children or adults or both. I'm not sure if that bus driver had a little Christmas cheer before picking up his load which would certainly account for why he (she?) ran a stop sign and cut off a car on the street he (she?) turned on to. Really bad decision when the vehicle is plastered with the name of the organization all over it. Talk about bad advertising!
Anyway my husband got the license number written down though I'm pretty sure their facility likely doesn't have more than one bus and we'll be reporting it tomorrow when the administration office opens.
It just amazes me when people who are supposed to be professional drivers have total disregard for other drivers on the street. More so in this case seeing as how the bus was full of passengers and and the driver was doing a poor job of safely transporting them.
