Tonight - Friday June 15, 2012 - we had another enounter with a bad driver in Cloverdale.
We walked our dogs over to the fairground to check out what was going on because we drove past earlier and saw white tents and a stage being set up in the parking lot.
We were standing on the corner of 60th Avenue and 176th Street in front of 7-11, preparing to walk north across 60th to the fairgrounds when the light changed. I had pressed the pedestrian light. It was 8:30pm, plenty of light outside.
On this intersection there were several cars lined up on 176th Street preparing to turn left up 60th Avenue eastbound. They got the green arrow and away they went.
The pedestrian light activated and at this crosswalk it chirps for pedestrians. We stepped into the crosswalk - 2 adults and 2 large dogs - and a truck pulling a utility trailer made a flying left turn to go up 60th, cutting off the northbound traffic on 176th Street and without a care in the world for the pedestrians in the intersection and continued up 60th.
We stopped walking and pulled the dogs in when it was clear this truck and trailer was planning to mow us down in the crosswalk even though we had the pedestrian light. Advertising said "Cloverdale Mowing" and the utility trailer had large sides but I could see a riding lawnmower inside. Ironic isn't it. A mowing company wants to mow down pedestrians in a crosswalk!
It never ceases to amaze me when people are driving company vehicles with the advertising plastered all over that they will drive badly and give themselves bad advertising.
I don't know how many employees Cloverdale Mowing hires but they have at least one driver who has no regard for the safety of pedestrians in a crosswalk who have the legal entitlement to cross. Nor any regard for the safety of the people in the first car that was cut off on 176th Street. Companies are responsible for the actions of their employees. They have hired a poor driver who tried to hit pedestrians in a crosswalk and then sped off without a care in the world. Apparently the driver thought he was going so fast that I couldn't read his company name. Bad advertising when you hire bad drivers to drive a company vehicle. Employers do not seem to grasp this concept.
Fortunately I have my own riding mower and have no need of their services but they sure won't get a recommendation from me if I hear of anyone looking for a lawn cutting service.
A slice of life in Cloverdale, British Columbia. Blogs include events happening around Cloverdale and stories of what it was like growing up in Cloverdale.

Flynn Flies Again!
Not 90 minutes after I posted the last article about the Flynn truck tailgating me on 24th Avenue, I was headed south out of Cloverdale on 176th Street around 3:30pm. I'm in the slower right hand lane where I usually travel because I'm not much onto speeding.
I see a truck roaring up in the left lane, passing vehicles in the lane I'm in and then getting back into the left lane. There were no vehicles around me so the white truck was able to fly past me at least 100km in the 80km zone on 176th Street.
Yup, it is another Flynn truck with their advertising and website plastered on the vehicle. Not the same truck I saw on 24th Avenue 90 minutes earlier. The second truck had a ladder and the first truck didn't.
Now I ask myself do I want to call a company to work on my roof knowing their employees break the law, have no regard for other lives, are impatient, and likely to rush through things. Nothing like taking your agression out on my roof! No thanks.
But great advertising! To show you're a bad driver who breaks the law that is.

Steer clear of Gateways Learning Centre drivers
Today I was driving up to the YMCA near the Panorama Shopping Centre. Its the one on the hill going up Highway 10 just after the lights at 152 Street.
Today I was riding my motorbike which always gives one an interesting perspective on bad and dangerous drivers out there. I saw a car plastered with advertising for the Gateways Learning Centre. I was at a stop at the lights at Highway 10 and 152 Street. There were a couple of cars in front of me and a semi truck and trailer first in line at the red light. I was in the slow lane so I could change lanes on the other side of the lights in preparation for a right hand turn on 150th Street. Beside me is a lane for right hand turn only for people heading north on 152 Street. I could see on the other side of the lights that a semi truck was pulled over with its hazard lights flashing. You know the universal sign for I can park anywhere and block the lane while doing it. The driver was probably in McDonalds.
The car with Gateways Learning Centre pulled in to the right hand turn lane and disappeared out of my sight - blocked from the semi. I mean call my silly but I expect a car to be in a lane that says right hand turn only to actually be turning right.
Oddly enough when I got going up Highway 10 and pulled into the right lane so I could turn right ahead at the Y, I now saw the Gateways Learning Centre car driving a couple of cars in front of me and then turn into the Panorma Shopping Centre. Obviously the only way that car could do that was to drive straight through in the right hand turn lane and then change lanes in the intersection and cut off the semi who was first in line at the light because the lane was blocked with the other semi parked near McDonalds.
Again it just never fails to boggle my mind why companies allow bad drivers to operate their company vehicles and break the law.
Do I want to do business with a company whose employees thumb their noses at the law? Do I want to do business with a company whose employees are bad drivers? Not likely. That's why I do my own advertising on this blog about these companies and let people make up their own minds.
Gateways Learning Centre website says its in Abbotsford and they have franchise opportunities available. If I was in the market for going back to school and seeing how this company likes to illegally pass other vehicles on the right, I'd give this company a pass!

Wallace and Carey still bad driving
Almost a year after the last time I saw a Wallace & Carey truck run a red light, they've done it again in the exact same spot.
Tonight about 8pm I was at a red light on 184th Street and 16th Avenue waiting to head home to Cloverdale. It was red for about 10 seconds after I rolled to a stop. I watched a truck to my left barreling it along 16th Avenue. Just as my light turns green the truck rolls through the red light and I'm amazed to see its Wallace & Carey again.
I don't know if its the same bad driver that ran the red light before but if its a different one then this driver follows the same rules of speeding down 16th Avenue in Hazelmere and running red lights.
Here's a new flash. If you go the posted speed limit - 60km - that would give you plenty of time to stop when the light turns yellow and then red.
It just boggles my mind that companies allow bad drivers to drive their company vehicles that are well plastered with their name and give them bad advertising.
I don't know if its the same company or not but there is a Wallace and Carey in Calgary that sells Western wear. I bought one of their shirts at the Bay when I was at the Calgary Stampede a few years ago.
Oh well. Nothing like putting a bad driver behind the wheel of your company truck to give your company a bad reputation of red light runners.

Bad Drivers out again.
I don't know. Maybe the nice sunny weather is bringing out the bad drivers to Cloverdale today.
This morning just after 10:00 I'm driving down 176th Street heading south to 16th Avenue. I'm in the slower lane doing 80 km, got the cruise control set just in case the cops have a speed trap set up. They like to hang out at 48th and 40th Avenues and closer to 32nd as well. Oddly enough everyone around me in both lanes is going around the speed limit too. Usually I get passed along this stretch like I'm standing still but maybe everyone's thinking the same thing and the cops might be setting up a speed trap today. Too bad they weren't!
As I approach 48th Avenue I glance in my rear view mirror and see a pick up truck driving across the bridge that goes over the train tracks, just gum booting it, flying along. I keep glancing in my rear view mirror and he's weaving in and out of the traffic. Eventually he ends up right behind me riding my ass. If I'd tapped my brakes he'd have hit me. There's a break in the passing lane and he gets in there, speeds up and rides the ass of the car that's in that lane who I estimate is going slightly over 80km, maybe 85km.
But now that he's beside me I can see the company name on the truck. Flynn. This is a roofing company. Website also on truck www.flynn.ca
The driver is riding the car's ass and is very agressively swerving back and forth in that lane though he never crosses the line. Eventually he manages to weave back into the slow lane to pass him except the car in front of me is going the speed limit so Flynn can't get around the car he's trying to pass in the other lane. Except the car in front of him puts his brakes on and Flynn nearly slams into him and swerves back into the other lane, nearly clipping the car he wants to pass. That would have been a 3 car collision!
By now I am keeping well back because I am sure agressive Flynn is about to cause an accident. Eventually he gets enough room to weave in and out of traffic again and is flying up 176th. The light at 32nd Avenue turns red. Flynn doesn't care whose lives he puts in danger and runs the red light and flies up the hill. I can still see him as I crest the hill turning left on 24th.
I'm guessing he was heading home. I've seen their company on 192nd Street, a couple of blocks down from 24th Avenue.
I just find it incredible that companies allow bad drivers to drive their company vehicles that are well marked with the company name. It is such bad advertising. Obviously Flynn does not have any company procedures in place instructing employees to operate their vehicles in a safe manner.
In a couple of years we'll probably need to replace the roof on our house. I know what company I won't be calling to do the job!

Bad Zion Lutheran Bus Driver
Tonight - Tuesday Dec 14 - at 7:30 I was driving east on 58th Avenue heading up to 182 Street to meet someone. The street was quiet. I was the only vehicle in either direction.
179th Street is a street that runs only between 58th and 60th Avenues. Closer to 60th Avenue on the east side of the street is Zion Lutheran Church. There is a school there too. Behind the church and school on 180th Street is the retirement residence run by the church.
As I was driving along 58th I observed a small school bus - the kind that seats about 30 people or so - travelling on 179th. It runs the stop sign and turns left right in front of me. I slam on my brakes and hit the horn and held it down for several seconds. The bus had passengers though I couldn't tell if they were children or adults or both. I'm not sure if that bus driver had a little Christmas cheer before picking up his load which would certainly account for why he (she?) ran a stop sign and cut off a car on the street he (she?) turned on to. Really bad decision when the vehicle is plastered with the name of the organization all over it. Talk about bad advertising!
Anyway my husband got the license number written down though I'm pretty sure their facility likely doesn't have more than one bus and we'll be reporting it tomorrow when the administration office opens.
It just amazes me when people who are supposed to be professional drivers have total disregard for other drivers on the street. More so in this case seeing as how the bus was full of passengers and and the driver was doing a poor job of safely transporting them.

Wallace & Carey truck runs a red light
This didn't happen in Cloverdale, just a little south in Hazelmere.
Last night around 7:45pm I was travelling northbound on 184th Street and waiting at a red light on 16th Avenue. To my left I noticed a Wallace & Carey panel truck travelling along 16th Avenue heading east. My light turned green and I kept my eye on that truck that was still barrelling along 16th at well over the posted speed limit and decided to wait. No point in me being right and ending up dead. My light was green for a good 4 or 5 seconds by the time the Wallace & Carey truck ran the red light.
I just don't get it about some companies. Why do they hire bad drivers and then give them a company vehicle with the company name plastered all over it? Talk about bad advertising.
