Its that time of year again. October. Halloween. Haunted houses.
However I can't seem to find anything new in this department other than the usual creep shows around Surrey.
The Haunted Barn will be back October 28, 29, and 30 between 7 and 10pm. Located at 3048 192 Street, cost is $7.50.
Potters House of Horrors at 12530 - 72nd Avenue is open every night between October 14 and 31 from 6 to 10pm. The first hour is a tamer version of the haunted house. Friday and Saturday night the cost is $17 for adults and $12 for under 12 years. Weeknights adults $15 and under 12 years is $10.
The Haunted Train Ride at Bear Creek Park 13750 - 88th Avenue is running between October 14 and 31 every night 6:30 to 10pm but they might stay open later if its busy. Cost is $8.50 for adults and $7 for under age 12.
If you're willing to go a little further out I recommend the haunted house Ghost Ridge in the Maple Ridge Fairgrounds just off the Lougheed Highway near the turn off for the old Albion Ferry. 23500 - 105th Avenue. Open October 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, and 30 between 6 and 9pm. Cost is $8. They open at 4pm for a tamer version. Lights on and the actors not jumping out and scaring you. Kind of takes the haunted out of haunted house!

Halloween Happenings around Cloverdale
Its coming up to my favorite time of the year - Halloween.
There's not too much in the way of haunted houses/tours in Cloverdale but there's a couple of options just outside town. I checked some of my old sources, a couple of them don't specifically say 2010, so I'll direct you to the websites and if you're interested, please contact them for more information.
Barnyard Phantoms in the Haunted Barn located at 3048 - 192 Street. Says its open nightly but doesn't say what day in October its really open or if its a neglected website from years gone by. There is an email address for more info. Click here for their website.
Potter's House of Horrors is located at 12530 - 72nd Avenue and they do say they're on for 2010 starting October 15 until the 31st. Click here for their website.
The Scream Train at Bear Creek Park does show its on for 2010. 13750 - 88th Avenue. Near the King George Highway. The train is kind of located in the middle of the park. Check their website here.
On a tamer note I've seen a bunch of dried corn plants set up around the parking lot of the Cloverdale Country Farms produce store on the corner of 168th Street and Highway 10. I checked their website and they have a pumpkin patch corn maze going on until Halloween. Click here for more information.
I've seen the signs up for the Hazelmere Pumpkin patch located at 18507 - 20th Avenue and they're open weekends 10am to 5pm. A tractor pulling a trailer takes you down to the pumpkin patch to choose your pumpkin.
Also I've seen signs for Capella's Farm on 160th Street, just off Highway 10. First farm on your left after you cross the train tracks and Colebrook Road. They're advertising pumpins, hayride, and I think a haunted house. I'm not sure on the last one. I've only spotted the sign that recently went up a couple of times while driving past.

What's happening in Cloverdale in October 2009
Hmm, I was expecting to find all sorts of haunted houses put on by school groups or businesses to raise money for charity in the spirit of Halloween fun, but I've come up short. One of the best haunted houses I went to was a few years ago held at the Heppell's farm on 184th Street and it was put on by students at Lord Tweedsmuir. I believe it was to raise money for the school band's trip, so we went to support them. It was actually a haunted barn and the students did an excellent job of decorating and putting themselves in costumes and acting. But as all kids do, they grew up and graduated, and moved on.... Usually I see some haunted houses signs while driving around. One of the local high schools, and I'm not sure if it was Lord Tweedsmuir or Earl Marriott had a haunted house at a farm on 192 Street near 32nd Avenue last year. And whichever school it was, the other one had a haunted house on 24th Avenue, somewhere around 182 Street. If I see around this month I'll post them later. Usually there are fireworks at the Cloverdale Athletic Park on Halloween night around 7:30. I haven't seen any notices of it yet this year. Will update if I find out for sure.
